Chemistry Unit Essential Questions
EQ 1: In what was have you seen chemistry in the world around you? EQ 2: How do we use the periodic table to explain how the increasing atomic mass of elements is arranged horizontally and groups of elements with similar chemical properties arranged vertically? EQ 3: How can matter be classified as elements, compounds, or mixtures? EQ 4: How can we build models representing elements compounds or mixtures? EQ 5: How can we show that changes in the properties of matter can be physical or chemical? EQ 6: How do we know changes in size, shape, and state of matter are considered physical changes? EQ 7: How do we know changes in temperature, color, formation of a gas or formation of a precipitate are considered chemical changes (Color alone is NOT sufficient evidence)? EQ 8: How do we identify an observed change as physical or chemical, providing evidence for their claim? EQ 9: How can we count atoms and molecules in chemical formulas and equations? EQ 10: How do we explain the number of atoms in the products and reactants is the same in a chemical equation? EQ 11: How can we explain matter cannot be created or destroyed during a reaction? EQ 12: How do we analyze reaction should be studied in a closed system? EQ 13: How can we explain how a balanced chemical equation represents the conservation of mass?
